FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Utah Divorce Mediation
WHAT IS DIVORCE MEDIATION, AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM GOING TO COURT?
Divorce mediation in Utah is a process where both spouses work with a neutral mediator instead of fighting through separate divorce attorneys in court. The mediator helps you reach agreements on things like child custody, parent-time (visitation), property division, alimony, and child support — without a judge deciding for you.
It’s typically faster, far less expensive, and much less stressful than litigation, and you stay in control of the outcome.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MEDIATION IS RIGHT FOR US?
Most divorces through SALT Mediation are finalized in about 45 days from start to finish. The exact timing depends on how quickly both spouses are able to reach agreements and sign documents. Compared to a contested divorce with attorneys, which can drag on for months or years, Utah divorce mediation is far faster.
HOW MUCH DOES DIVORCE MEDIATION COST IN UTAH?
We offer flat-fee uncontested divorce and hourly mediation in Utah — no surprise costs. Our entire process costs far less than one divorce attorney retainer (which can be $5,000+ per spouse). Our fees include mediation session, attorney-drafted documents, and all court filings.
WILL WE HAVE TO GO TO COURT?
No hearings. No courthouse visits. We prepare and file all documents efor you, and once the judge signs, your divorce decree is final.
CAN THE MEDIATOR GIVE LEGAL ADVICE OR REPRESENT ME?
No. Your mediator must stay neutral and cannot represent either spouse. At Salt Mediation Group, our mediators serve as neutral facilitators — not advocates for one side. This ensures fairness for both sides.
WHAT IF ONE SPOUSE HIDES ASSETS OR REFUSES TO COOPERATE?
Mediation only works if both spouses are transparent and cooperative. If someone refuses to disclose assets or hides financial information, your mediator will stop the process and refer you to other legal options. Full disclosure is required under Utah divorce law for a valid agreement.
WHAT IF MY SPOUSE DOESN'T LIVE IN UTAH?
That’s completely fine. We offer virtual divorce mediation in Utah, so both spouses can participate remotely.
As long as one spouse meets Utah’s residency requirement, we can handle the entire process online.
WHAT IS AN UNCONTESTED DIVORCE IN UTAH?
An uncontested divorce means you and your spouse agree on all issues — custody, support, property, and debts.
It’s the fastest, simplest way to get divorced in Utah without court appearances or separate attorneys. We handle all court documents, attorney drafting, and filing for you.
DO WE QUALIFY FOR AN UNCONTESTED DIVORCE IN UTAH?
You qualify for an uncontested divorce if both spouses have already agreed on every issue and are ready to sign final documents. If not, we can help you resolve remaining details through divorce mediation, then finalize your uncontested divorce filing once everything’s agreed upon.
HOW IS UNCONTESTED DIVORCE DIFFERENT THAN MEDIATION?
Mediation helps couples reach agreements. An uncontested divorce is for couples who’ve already agreed — they just need the attorney-prepared documents and court filing handled. At Salt Mediation Group, we handle both paths from start to finish.
WHY CHOOSE SALT MEDIATION GROUP OVER HIRING DIVORCE ATTORNEYS?
Because we simplify what attorneys complicate. You pay clear, simple fees — not high retainers or complicated billing. You’ll stay in control — not in conflict. Our Utah attorney-mediators prepare, file, and finalize your divorce without a court appearance, usually in about 45 days.
IS MEDIATION REQUIRED FOR DIVORCE IN UTAH?
